Mothers Day Socks

What do you think, can I start a pair of socks today and get them done by Sunday? I'm not sure either but I am ready to try!

But, I need your help! Here are my options in yarn...Vote on one to make Cookie's Monkey Socks. This will be my first time making these socks but I have wanted to for so long. So, all of you out there who have made some of these socks (and I know there are a lot of you) please help me choose!

Starting to the Left: Knit Picks Gloss Dusk, Trekking Autumn,
Knit Picks Gloss Cocoa, Knit Picks Gloss Pumpkin,
Knit Picks Essential Tweed Plum

Why the rush on the socks? Well, besides the obvious reason of Mothers Day, my mom just had knee surgery and is really down in the dumps. When I went to visit her yesterday I found her sitting on the couch, crying because of all the pain from the rehab. I felt so bad for her.

There is no way I can make the pain less but I am a knitter. I can KNIT! **insert loud sound of clicking needles here :-)** She is to come over to my house on Sunday for Brunch and I would love to give her a new pair of socks.

Now, I know what you are thinking...what about John's socks? Have I finished those? No...not yet; but I am on the home stretch! Those will be done by tonight and I can cast on for moms socks after that (hopefully tomorrow).

Ya, ya, ya, I hear you back there! I know my mom has been the recipient of so many of my socks already. And I know that she even felted two of them. And I know that she recently stole MY pair of socks...but hey, it's my MOM! She has earned them :-)

Okay, so vote (by leaving me a comment) and help me decide soon...

All you lurkers...I need you to de-lurk and give me a hand! Thanks!

First, you can TOTALLY do it! I know wherewith I speak, I'm a Sock Madness, gal.
Second, you don't have much time. Put the man socks down, now. You can finish them on Sunday after you've given away the new pair.
Third, it's really hard to pick a color without knowing your Mom's coloring, but the Monkey's I've seen (haven't knit them myself, though) look great in variegated. You've only got one variegated option, so I guess that's my vote. But you can certainly veto if one of the other colors is really more appropriate for Ma.
Finally, happy Mother's day, chicky!

I don't know your mom and that would be how I would decide normally. So, without that knowledge I've seen the pumpkin as socks - gorgeous!! That's my vote!
Good luck! Determination is half the battle! Get going!

I am not a very experienced sock knitter, but the ankle sock I've been doing actually knits up very quickly when you do the heel right (heh) or when your DD doesn't use the needles to brace herself when she trips and pulls them out. Sounds unlikely but totally true. :)

I also apparently don't read very well. You already have a pattern. I'd go for the purple. Purple rules.

I knit one Monkey sock in two days, I think. I have yet to make it's mate, but that's another story. All the colors are great, but I vote for the Pumpkin or the blue Gloss. Have fun and I hope your mother feels better soon!

My vote is for the Trekking --- always nice.

Becareful with the Knit Picks Gloss --- I made my first pair of socks with it and they are very pilly. Remember, those are hand wash only...

Hey, I forgot you had put up this pic. So...how come you bought some MORE sock yarn today at Posh? It's not really for your Mom, right? It's for you? It's for me? Oh - it's just to add to your stash...OK, I get it. That's just fine too.

Well - I'd go for Plum! That's my pick! Though I have absolutely NO idea what 'Monkeys' have to do with socks...you'll have to explain that one to me in private!

By the way - the podcast title is just perfecto! Couldn't have chosen a better one myself. Now, after the 'Posh' trip we have substance for the next 'cast! BTW my eye still hurts!!!

...has felted two socks... Hmmm, I'd say stay away from the handwash only yarn (although I like the pumpkin, too!). Trekking gets my vote. You're so nice to knit your mommy some socks!

Hey man - You can totally do this - I would vote for either the purple or the blue - Both are nice summerer/sping colors and would brighten her world -

Of course you can get a pair done by Mother's Day!! I know you can do it and it would mean so much to her! Then you can move on to John's for Father's Day! :)

I literally just found your blog and saw you needed some votes. Now I'm sure you've already started the socks although monkeys are so quick you could probably start them tomorrow and still finish. I vote for the trekking yarn. I knit mine in a yarn that was wayyyy to stripy for my taste but still think the monkeys look best with multi colored yarn...Good luck! And I'm going to start reading your blog--I want to see a monkey knit record be made!

Of course you can finish the Monkey socks by Mother's day. They are super fast and a quick knit gift.
Also thanks for the comment on my Blog, I think I'll reward myself after finals with a good ball of yarn and a nap.

If she's felted some in the past, I'd go with any yarn that's superwash! haha
Also, acupuncture can work wonders for pain management. Just sayin'. I hope she feels better soon!

I'm late in the game on commenting on this post -- but what yarn did you choose and what's the status of the socks?
