New Doggie

Honestly, I am a cat lover. Don't get me wrong, I love dogs too but something about the attitude of a cat, the self sufficiency of a cat and the love of yarn by cats that gets me.

Can I get an amen?

When I was in college I had two kitties. But sadly had to give them away when I married John because he is allergic to them. Trust me, I tried to get him to take a little pill and maybe some acupuncture. I was sure that he too could be a cat lover. But I was wrong.

Poor John used to come to my house in college and his eyes would watter, his throat would swell up, he would cough uncontrollably...BUT, I still had hope :-) I kept those kitties throughout our courtship right up to the week before the wedding. There was no way I was going to give them up if this marriage thing didn't happen (funny now that I think about it).

Anyway, I gave Punkin and Babe away to friends of the family so I am still able to see them but truly it is very VERY hard to give any animal away I dont' care who you give them to. In the end, they are still gone.

John and I have been married nearly 6 years now and we have had two dogs since then. The first one, who was a mutt, we got at the start of our marriage but found out as soon as we brought her home from the pound that our apartment complex didn't allow dogs. So, we had to give Wiggy away to Jill.

The second dog we got as soon as we purchased our own home and my daughter was 9 months old. It was a miniature dachshund and too cute! We had Cocoa for a couple of years when my daughter was messing with her while Cocoa was eating. Annoyed, Cocoa snapped at Ally (honestly, I would have too if I were a dog). Because I had (at the time) another baby I knew that the risk that the dog would do it again and maybe next time break some skin was a risk I didn't want to take. So, little Cocoa went to a nice older lady who stays home and treats her like she was royalty.

Which leads me to PRINCESS FIONA (that is right, like Shrek...Ally named her). I had been positive that I didn't' want a dog until the kids were old enough to understand that it was not a stuffed animal but a living and breathing thing that needed to be taken care of. Well, last week our neighbors dog got out and came running up to our front door as we were leaving for school. It was the CUTEST little cocker spaniel mix and the kids went crazy!

Since that encounter with the neighbors dog I had been thinking about getting one. On Saturday the family and I were on our way to the grocery store when I mentioned to John that I was thinking about getting a dog. WELL, that is all I had to say cause the next thing I knew we were on our way to the animal shelter.

I knew I wanted a labrador retriever but was pretty certain that there would be none there. Plus, John reminded me that they poop the size of horses LOL! So, we settled on the idea of getting a small dog.

There were several there that caught our eye but Princess Fiona was the one that won the prize! Here is the 411 on Princess...

  • She was a stray
  • The vet thinks she is about 6 years old
  • The shelter thinks she is a terrior mix
  • She is white with one eye outlined with black and the other pink
  • SHE IS POTTY TRAINED!
  • SHE IS LEASH TRAINED!
  • SHE DOES NOT BARK!
  • SHE IS A LAP DOG!
  • SHE FOLLOWS ME EVERYWHERE!
I have fallen in love with her...and to make even better...it seems that she has the same fascination with yarn as I do! Here is a picture of her making herself cozy in a bin of yarn I was taking pictures of to put on Ravelry...

Isn't she too cute?

If only we all could just curl up in a bin of yarn and fall asleep :-)
Dream, Dream, Dream!

Way too cute! Rescuing doggies rules! Our pup (heh. pup. She's like 70 in dog years) was from Table Mountain and never regret getting a dog from there. :)

Marly, she is so cute. The fact that you got her from a shelter makes me love her and you even more. She reminds me of my little dog Oscar, who is an all white terrier mix. I did post Oscar on my blog once here:

Enjoy her and hope the kids treat her right :)

What a little cutie and I love the name! No amen from me honestly, I would take a dog over a cat any day, I think that is so wonderful that you are giving her a good home.

Awwww, what a sweetie! I'm a firm believer in getting an older dog that is already house-trained. She looks just right. I tried really hard to talk my husband into letting me give PeeWee the name Fiona, but he kept saying "Shrek!" to me whenever I'd mention it, and I'd say "Blast!" But i'ts all for the best...
