Follow Up to LTLB Class a Bust :-(

I have been told that there is already a CAL going on for this bag.

Funny thing happened that made me remember that sometimes email or message board posts can be misunderstood or mistaken. I started a topic in the Interweave Crocheters Group on Ravelry about the Larger Than Life Bag and asked people to post pictures of their bags if they made them or simply chat about the bag. After like a week NOBODY made any comment. So, I made a sarcastic comment on Ravelry about like "I can't believe nobody is making this bag. LOL (which those of you who listen to my podcast know I was most likely really LOL). J

Anyway, a kind lady told me that I must not get our much...suggesting that there are so many people making this bag (which I already knew) that there is a CAL for it. I wrote her back and told her I was just trying to be funny. See, even my humor can go without notice :-) Anywho...

Regarding the class, I am not too worried about it. I agree with Nicole...I just don't think there are many crocheters in my area that are confident enough to do the bag. EVEN THOUGH it is not a hard bad to do!

I guess it just looks intimidating. I will talk to Gerri today and see if she wants to drop the class or move the date and see if there are any takers.

I wish all of you who want to take the class with me lived closer! I bet we all could have so much fun! (insert modiesty here) If I say so myself, I think I am pretty funny (again, if you listen to the podcast you know that) and usually I have a lot of fun when I am teaching people how to do things that I love! Maybe someday we all can plan a little trip to CO and "hook" up :-)

Okay all, kids going crazy...middle son needs to go to school today so I better get off this computer!

Talk to you all soon!

Marly

P.S. La posted this picture of me at String feeling up the novelty 'Easter Basket Filling'/yarn by Trendsetter ( can't remember the name). I thought it was funny so I am sharing it with all of you!

OK, don't take this wrong, but I think you offered a class for the wrong thing. I think the bag is bautiful, but it seems pretty easy to make, plus it is a bag, so taking a risk on making it is easy, there are no real size issues or anything. So if the bag were the finale of a learn to crochet, it might be a good class.... IMHO, if I were going to pay for a class it would be for something I was mystified by. Personally I would be more inclined to look into classes for wearables, but that is just me. I think you should do research and find out what crochet classes are doing well, and offer those types of classes, I know felting is huge right now and I think crochet has SOOOOOO much more versatility for the 3d form, knock their socks off with odd shaped felted bags that do not require knitting math..... I know you can find your teaching niche!!!

Sorry to hear no one signed up for the class. People may just be on overload with school starting (although my kid doesn't start until after Labor day).

Love the picture of you with the novelty yarn!

Oh Cwap! (As PeeWee would say. She picks up all my best vocabulary...) I'm so sorry your class had to cancel. I think karenm has a great idea of reframing the class: "Learn to Crochet and End Up With This Fantastic Bag!"

Don't give up, Marly. I agree that maybe doing the bag as part of an intro-to-crochet class might be appealing.

PS - I am always afraid to make sarcastic, funny comments like that. There's always some fuddy-duddy who takes it the wrong way - and feels the need to respond!

I think people are get concerned that there is a lot of finishing work to bags and blankets like that. You know, joining all the squares. I know it's not a lot of square for the cute, cute bag, but that's just my 2 cents.

Great happy photo of you!
