Pass It On

*Revised Dec. 2, 2006*

We knitters really "stick" together, if there is a knitter in need we are always the first to be there with a bouquet of yarn and some fresh rosewood needles (who needs real flowers I ask you). It is this wonderful generosity that made me think of something to help all of us out.

If you don't know by now, Stephanie Pearle-Mcphee is going be on the DIY Network show Knitty Gritty. This is a great event and nobody really wants to miss out on see it but there is a problem that I have noticed popping up on the comments to her blog. Not all of her legion of followers get this show! So I thought, why don't I start a "Pass It On" type thing with copied tapes of the show?

It is a simple concept, we all could sign up on a to be determined/made webring to either pass on the tape or get the tape. It would be very much like secret sock only we would be sending the video's of the show. What do you think?

Another option is to figure out how to post a copy of the show on the computer without copyright infringement. * I found on the DIY Network home page a link to all the knitting shows and it seems to me that some of the shows have video clips available...maybe the producers will do this for her episode. CLICK HERE to see what I mean *

Something else that is pretty interesting is that Vickie Howell, the host of Knitty Gritty has a blog site where she writes about her show. Right now she is writing about taping the new episodes and maybe (how couldn't she) she will write about her taping with the Harlot. We all should take a look. Check out her blog by clicking on the Knitster button on the right side --> over there :-)

Okay, my work here is done (or just begun depending on what you all want to do).
If you have any idea's please leave a comment.

Hi--I just read came over to your blog by way of Gone Knitting and was drawn to see what your blog would be like--since you said exactly what I replied to my friend when she told me to do some laundry: We don't need no stinkin' laundry! (tee hee)

So anyway, I was reading your post from a few days ago (Does anyone care?) and I wanted to say that I feel much the same way, but I've decided that what motivates me to blog is the need to create and the need to say "Look! I made it!" without becoming obnoxious to everyone around me.

So I'll tell you what, I'll be back and I'll say things like, "Wow your kids are cute!" and "That looks great--love the colors!" and "I can't believe you finished that already!" or even "I'm so sorry. Try knitting some cashmere--it always makes me feel better".

Okay--so as to the matter of recording the Harlot, I'll bet there are people out there who could Tivo it and burn it onto DVD's. That would be easier to ship around. I have the Tivo but no digital recorder. I'll ask around and see if any of my friends have recorders and would be willing to help.

I'm embarrassingly long-winded. I'll stop now.

Hello,
I came here via the Yarn Harlot's blog. If you are looking for people to tape her appearance on Knitty Gritty, I'd be happy to do it. I don't have Tivo or a DVD burner, so tape would be my only option. You can reach me at

Hi! I came here via the Yarn Harlot's blog as well. I am one of the legions of followers that won't have access to the show. I would love to join whatever swap gets set up! Thanks!

Another Yarn Harlot reader...count me in on Passing it On :) People probably haven't commented here because you need to make an account (I just did) and it's easy! I can hardly wait!!

I found my way here via the Socknitters list. This is a great idea because I am one of MANY who think cable is just WAY too expensive so we don't get the DIY channel. Thanks for thinking of this!
