Here is a picture of the second sock before the day began...
As you can see, still a ways to go...
Christmas Cantata, yeah, it is nice to hear our choir sing wonderful Christmas songs and listen to the preacher tell the always exciting Christmas Story. But, when I only have a week until my knitted gifts have to be handed out I am just not interested in sitting there in church listening without my knitting in my hand. So, I did what I thought I would never do...I knit during the service today. (I know, I know...stop looking at me like that) Trust me, it was very inconspicuous. I did sit in the balcony, in the very back row, all the way to the right of the sanctuary; that way I wouldn't be bothering anybody. Well, except for that nice little girl who kept getting in trouble by her mom for turning around and looking at what I was doing. But really, that is the only person who noticed what I was doing.
It wasn't like I didn't pay attention. Actually, I think knitting makes me focus more on what is being said. I mean it! I could write down what the whole sermon was about but I don't really have the time to do that...why? Weren't you listening...I have to finish my Christmas Knitting...not a lot of time for lots of rambling on the blog today.
Anyway, I finished the socks. After a couple of trips to the gym and one morning church service here is the finished product. A little frustrated that they are Fraternal Socks but it was too late to turn back once I realized I started at the wrong blue part (I didn't realize there were actually two blue sections). OH WELL; C'est La Vie
I have now started a new pair of sock for my dad out of regular old WoolEase. (these socks were for him but my mom doesn't think he would wear them...too many stripes...so, they are now my brothers) I like working with the thick yarn (goes really fast...I can get a pair done in a day on dpn's) and my dad should like them since he has trouble with his feet and is always complaining about his shoes being uncomfortable. Maybe some nice, cushy socks will do the trick. If not...I am sure John could use another pair :-)
P.S. Thanks to all who have been commenting lately, It really means a lot to me! Keep up the good work!

Knitting in church - something I've thought of, but never tried yet. Of course, being one of the two organists at my church, and being in the choir on the Sundays I don't play - means I'm rather in plain view! LOL Perhaps I could get away with it, but I don't think anyone would take kindly to having to wait while I finished a row before the next hymn began. Good luck with it. And no - my Christmas knitting will not get finished, it will have to get wrapped partially done and be finished later. Keep us posted on how you do with your gift list.
Chris
Could you tell me what patten you are using for your socks? I have a book called "Last Minute Gifts" and it has a pattern in it for thicker socks but can always use another one. I have some "Wool Ease" and some "Encore" that I need to use up. The socks in the photo look great!
I to have thought about knitting in Church. I have started a knit group at our Church and I lead it so it might be overlooked if I were to knit in church. Just to leary to try it yet.

OK, Marly - were you knitting at the gym??? I'm so jealous. I have to hold on to treadmills or elliptical machines to keep from tumbling off. I could never work on my socks at the same time!!!! I don't know about knitting in church. I think it depends on how cool your church is. I don't know that I could do it. I have a list of places I'd really love to knit but I can't figure out how to accomplish it yet: the gym, the car, graduate classes, church...
Just found your blog - surfing over from Lolly's - have to say your fraternal socks ROCK!! They're very very spiffy, and more power to you for knitting while on the treadmill. I don't think I can even stay upright on the treadmill, let along KNIT too!
Knitting is church - I might have to tell pastor - One second thought, I wondering if I can get away with it too - hmmmm, I love those socks I am sure they will be great for your brother
Me likes the fraternal socks!
They look great!

Will left a comment but didn't leave me a way to get in touch with him so I am leaving a comment in hope that he will look here again. Will, I did these socks in straight stockinette! Simple, just looks cool because of the yarn.

I'm so fortunate that my priest's wife is a knitter. She said that she always listens to his sermons while she's knitting, so he thinks it's just normal! It certainly keeps me from fidgeting or doodling. I just listen better if my hands aren't "talking."
Just found you ringsurfing.
