Crochet Dishcloth Free Pattern #3

!!!FREE PATTERN!!!

Never had I made a dishcloth before the other weekend. Actually, after the Harlot story I was a little afraid to make any!

But I told myself that I could do it and I did. Because I like the HARDINESS of the fabric that crochet makes I chose to use that method of stitching for my dishcloths. Figuring it wouldn't be very hard to pick a few stitch patterns that looked cool I pulled out my Crochet Stitch Bible and began to work them up.

Dishcloth #3: The Cable Stitch

Yarn: 2 oz ball of Sugar n Cream *lost ball band not sure of colorway. (Didn't use whole ball)

Hook: size H/8 5mm

Stitch Guide:
chain
slip stitch
single crochet
double crochet
cable stitch: work 1 DC, inserting hook 4 sts to the right in last sc skipped.

Abbreviations:
  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • sp - space
  • st/sts - stitch/stitches
Finished Size: 19cm wide and 21.5cm high

Multiple of Stitches: 4 stitches + 2 (add 1 for foundation ch)

Pattern: Ch 30
  • Row 1: 1 SC in 2nd ch from hook, 1 SC in each ch to end, turn.
  • Row 2: 3 CH, skip first sc, *skip next sc, 1 DC in each of next 3 sc, 1 CABLE ST, repeat from *, ending 1 DC in 1 ch, turn.
  • Row 3: 1 CH, skip first dc, 1 SC in 3rd of 3 ch, turn.
  • Repeat rows 2 and 3: 20 more times.
  • Last Row: repeat row 2 only instead of turning finish off.

That's it! Easy huh?

Check back tomorrow and I will have another pattern for
another dishcloth...here is a hint...

Hi Marly! Great dishcloth!
I know how to crochet, but I just realized I don't know much about crochet equipment, specifically hooks! :)
I know that in the states you have sizes labeled with the alphabet; in Canada we use the metric system. What is the 8? You have H/8 5mm in your explanation. Is it 8.5mm or is it H/8 or is the 8 a different sizing system? Thanks in advance for the clarification. :)
BTW, when I first heard your name on your podcast, I thought of marbleized finishes on paper (often wallpaper) and of subtle barber-pole yarn. Your parents must have know that you'd be a fibre-nut (if you don't mind me calling you that) to give you such a fitting name. :)
