I've Been Tagged!

Okay, you are special when you have been tagged by a friend in the blog world!

Val has tagged me for two things, and I have been promising her that I would respond so I am going to write about those today.

The first is the 123 tag.
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog along with these instructions.

Okay, so there isn't really a book close to me so I have to go and blindly grab a book from my bookshelf. Here Goes...*leans over in chair nearly falling fat arse out of it to get a (hopefully) intellectual book* huh, how apropos:

Page 123: Lacy Doily Valentine: red construction paper, lacy paper doily, tape, glue
1. Cut 2 hearts out of red paper
2. Hinge them together with tape.
3. Clue the bottom heart onto the white doily
4. Lift the top heart to write your message

This is from The Little Big Book for Moms edited by Lena Tabori and Alice Wong. Kinda funny that it is about Valentines day and that is just around the corner.

~The second tag involves a letter. Now, she gave me the letter J...

John: my husbands name. J also so happens to be the first letter of my last five boyfriends before I got married! No kidding, Josh, Joe, Justin, Jeff and John. Needless to say, when I met John, I knew he was a keeper because of his name (and his smile, and his eyes, and his touch, and his laugh, and his love of shoes...but I digress) John and I have been married for five years and have three beautiful children.

Josiah: my youngest son's name. He is named after a great King in the bible. Read all about him here. JoJo as we call him is a true delight!

Japan: this is where Hiro Nakamura is from in the TV show Heroes! I LOVE this show! Each week it gets better and better! I love the way they show each show as a chapter. It totally feels like I am reading chapters in a book. If you haven't seen this show I recommend you watch it tonight!

Jasmine: what a fresh smelling flower. I love the smell of Jasmine.

Jennifer: the name of my best friend.
Janene: the name of my other best friend

Jackson, Peter: the producer of the Best Movie Series ever made
Lord of The Rings.

Joke: I love a good joke! Anybody got one?

Javelin: I threw the javelin a bit in college but really wasn't good at it so I stuck to the shot put, discus, hammer and the weight throw.

Justin Timberlake: Big Fan!

Okay, I think that is enough...

Who am I going to tag?

Jenn letter A, Lain letter S, Allegra letter H, Kaity letter P, Melody letter W!

Checkout these Chicas!

Yarn Bee

Dear Executive in charge of sales at Hobby Lobby,

First and foremost, I want to thank you for supplying us knitters and crocheters with such a wonderful and affordable yarn; Yarn Bee. The cost per yard is something that is not only astonishing but not budget breaking. Now, I have to warn you, this is a letter like no other you have ever gotten so you better sit down.

Yes, this Yarn Bee Yarn is glorious; however, here lies the problem. The past few weeks (five to be exact) you have had astronomical sales advertised for this great yarn. Sales that simply can't be rivaled by the other national yarn companies (Lion Brand, Patons, Bernat). Believe me, they are trying but who can beat 200 yards of GLORIOUS eyelash yarn for .99? Not me I tell you. Just when I think you are going to cool down you put an add out like this.

YOU HAVE TO GIVE ME TIME TO REPLENISH MY BANK ACCOUNT AND USE UP SOME OF MY STASH BEFORE YOU NEXT SALE!

I have no more money and worst yet...no more room. My craft room/office was once well organized and I had a good grip on my stash. Now, well, look at it...complete chaos.
There are bags and bags and bags of wonderful Yarn Bee Yarn and I have officially run out of room. The Rack is full, the Bins are full, Under the bed is stuffed...and I don't dare open the closet door. What else am I to do but ask you to please...take a break. Go on vacation. Take some time and finish a knitted sweater before you put on another sale. I am thinking...a few...months. That should give me enough time to destash and perform a little Stash Smackdown.
This is a plea that must not go unheard.

PLEASE, help me help you!

Sincerely you devoted customer,

Marly

P.S. When you are putting on a sale please make sure all the stores are well stocked in the yarn...especially the one in Denver Colorado.

Gift Socks

Gift socks, I've made a few. Recently a fellow member of Yahoo Group I am a part of found out that a person whom she made a pair of sock for is only wearing her socks to bed. So here are my questions,

Is it okay to only wear handknit socks to bed?
As a gift sock knitter, should you take that as a rejection?
What are some possible reasons that somebody would only wear a pair of handknit socks to bed?
Especially when we take the time to stitch so many thousands of stitches to make just ONE sock, let alone TWO. We know that the person getting these wonderful gifts from your hands must really be worth it. Then, when we give them the socks, fully expecting them to be worn (and worn out in public) we find out that they are only being worn to bed! This is just absurd! I know that half the excitement of knitting a pair of socks for a person is the thought of them wearing a hole into them so I have an excuse to go to the LYS and purchase more yarn to make more socks (who am I kidding...like I need an excuse).

So, here are just a few of the reasons why somebody would only wear handmade socks to bed...in no particular order:

1. The person who got the socks is ashamed of them and doesn't' want to wear them out in public in fear that somebody might see him/or her. (NO Way would this happen)
2. The person is afraid that if he or she wears the socks in public others will see how wonderful they are and will immediately ask where they can get some. Then, the friend who made the socks will be so busy making other people socks that the original person won't get anymore. (Keep your friends who knit close and those who don't knit...don't tell them you have a friend who knits mentality)
3. The person is so happy about the socks, so thankful to have received something completely made with love that he/she wants to wear them at times when he/she needs to feel the love of a friend the most. What better time than to bed when our little feet seem to get neglected when your significant other pulls the covers away. Totally exposing the tender little things! (protection when you need it the most)
4. The person HAS to wear them to bed to prevent others in his/her home from steeling them for themselves! (most likely the answer)

The moral of this exercise is this...no matter when or where the socks are being worn...at least they are being worn!

Happy Knitting!

An Actual Post!

Hear Ye, Hear Ye,
Marly is finally posting a new message. Since it has been so long since my last post I thought it best to let you all know what I have been up to lately...

Let's see, where to begin...as some of you know I take care of my 87 year old grandmother during the week while my oldest is in school. It is a real pleasure to spend time with her and I love her very much. Grandma is actually the one who taught me how to crochet! She also used to take care of me when I was a child so, taking care of her (and I use that loosely as she still lives alone and is fully functioning...almost) is not a burden...it is a delight! However, that doesn't make it easy. Kind of like learning to knit...in the beginning the thought of working two long sticks and string together to make something wonderful is almost not worth the frustration you might encounter while trying to do so. But you do anyway because you know it is worth it in the end. Well, similar situation with my grandma.

She has Parkinson's disease so she doesn't move very fast or very steadily. Her voice is almost non existent as her vocal cords are farther apart now that she is older and has the Parkinson's so hearing her talk is difficult. Let alone with the two boys (3 and 1) yelling in the background. She also has developed diabetes in recent years so making sure she is eating correctly is a must. All of these things are managable but very difficult with the boys.

I take her to the grocery store, the movies, the bank, bible study, doctors appointments...really where ever she feels like going. She is always telling me that she doesn't want to be a burden to me and my family and I keep telling her that she is nothing of the sort.

So, why am I telling you all this? If you have seen the weather channel you would know that here in Denver we have had five snow storms now in just as many weeks. Along with the snow has come bitter cold temps. Well, what happens when the temp. gets below freezing? That is right...pipes freeze and that is what happened at my grandma's place. So, two weeks ago I went and packed her up and brought her to my house. My parents were out of town so they could do nothing. My brother had shoulder surgery so he couldn't be much of a help, my sisters entire family had the flu so they were definately out! Grandma just had to have (as my daughter called it) a sleep over. I could see the unconfortableness in grandma but I just told her that I understood the situation wasn't ideal but I would do my best to make it an easy one.

Allura LOVED it! She thought it was just great to have grandma-great stay in her bed. One night, Ally crawled into bed with grandma and snuggled in right up around her head...like a cat. Sure, was really cute but you have to remember, with the Parkinson's grandma can't move really well so she was stuck in an uncomfortable possition until I just happened to go in the room and check on them. When I walked in grandma yelled out in a faint voice "she is over here". I looked at the bed and there was Allura just about sufficating grandma! I picked Ally up and put her back in her sleeping bag on the floor and made sure grandma was okay. Possible crisis averted.

All in all, I think grandma had a good time but all she could talk about was going home. That really made me feel bad because I knew she wanted to go but couldn't and if you are like me...telling your grandma no is not an easy thing to do. It wasn't long before mom and dad got back into town and I took grandma to thier house where she still is since her pipes are still frozen. Poor Grandma ;-( atleast she isn't here with three screaming and rambunctious kids all over the place.

Speaking of three kids, I had a miscarrage a few weeks ago. I was only about three or four weeks along so it wasn't a very big deal...so I thought. In recent days I have noticed that it affected me more than I thought. Just a little more sad but not depressed. I know that God is perfect and that He is in control of all things so I will not question Him. Just pray that he holds my heart while I go through the emotions.

One thing did come out of the miscarrage, John and I sat down and had a realistic talk about more children and decided that we are done. Three is ENOUGH! He is going to go and get "snipped" next Friday. Luckly, he was willing to do the deed so I didn't have to go on birth control. I just hate that stuff!

Other than all of that...I have just been really busy spending time at the "Yarn Stores" spending my Christmas Gift Cards!

But you will have to wait to hear about all that tomorrow.

Thank you all for all the wonderful emails and comments. It feels good to know that I was missed by so many people.

Until Tomorrow
